He has studied Japanese at the University of Maryland (extension) Yokosuka, Japan and at California State University, Los Angeles, where he holds a BA in Liberal Studies/Economics. Steven wrote his thesis on the grammar and lexicon of space and time in English. From a cognitive/functional linguistic perspective and inspired by recent architectural theories on space, the thesis examines frames of reference for spatial linguistic forms and tense-aspect in English.
